Start Your Practice November 10th

Join Brendan and Christiane on November 10th for a 3-hour workshop incorporating the fundamental postures of the Ashtanga Primary series - a challenging, but accessible approach to classical yoga. Students will be guided through the foundational and standing postures from this approach as a way of establishing a base for their yoga journey. Practitioners will learn the principles of the Ashtanga practice as a means of entering into a daily practice routine.

In addition to the kickoff workshop on November 10th, you’ll have four weeks of access to our foundations programming, where all students will be given personalized care and attention to body-specific details to make the yoga work for you!

The workshop on November 10 and 4 weeks of foundations programming is offered at $100-150 sliding scale

Tristana: Bandha

The Tristana method is based on three pillars: breath, bandha, and drishti.

Bandha translates to "lock" and as you learn to engage these locks, you can channel energy and support your body as you move through asana. Different postures require different levels of support, and therefore, different levels of engagement. Bandhas helps create stability, strength, balance, and flexibility.

There are three main bandha that support the practice of Ashtanga Yoga:

  • Mula banda-the root lock, located near the pelvic floor

  • Uddiyana banda-the abdominal lock, located near your belly button

  • Jalandara bandha-the throat lock, located near the base of your throat

Dreaming, Sound and Rest with Sumeet Banerji October 27th

Join the Yoga Shala as we welcome musician and teacher, Sumeet Banerji with Caleb Knox, for a evening of sound and posture exploration, October 27th.

Dreaming, Sound, and Rest is a special event combining yoga nidra and a live acoustic set. Spots are limited for this one-time experience!

About Sumeet: Sumeet Banerji is a lifelong student of sound, posture and dreaming. His studies in music began under the influence of his grandmother Sushri Shanti Banerji. Her guidance led him to ancient and esoteric branches of Indian music and gave him the confidence to study with world renowned masters. Based in San Francisco, he continues to develop and adapt these learnings to the contexts of sleep, meditation and subconscious exploration.

About Caleb: Caleb Knox is a somatic wellness practitioner and musician residing in West Seattle where he teaches yoga, and manages a local herbal apothecary.

Sign up via Momence for an evening of music and internal exploration!

Teacher Feature: Danii B.

A few tidbits to get to know Danii:

  • A sutra that resonates with them:

    • I have never read the sutras. Does this make me a terrible yogi? Maybe [It does not!]. But if the sutras were a sci-fi short story, I could be into that.

  • A pose they're gaining new appreciation for:

    • Marichyasana D. It was never difficult for me until I tore up my foot and now I’m realizing how much is going on in that pose.

  • Favorite spot at the U District Farmers’ Market:

    • The mushroom people. I bought a little mushroom grow kit, and it was pretty rad, so I guess that’s my favorite stand.

  • A cue that has stuck with them:

    • “Release the tension in your jaw and slowly start to turn the corners of your mouth upward.”

Be sure to take Rocket Basics with Danii! Learn more about all of our teachers.
